The trip home..........

Here are some random pics of the trip home to Illinois.....arrived this past Tuesday morning. Trailer is setting at some friends property not far from Mill Creek Lake, have a full hook up....all is well! Not bad weather here for end of January, no snow yet, not real cold in daytime. These pics are mostly Arizona and New Mexico along I-40...

It was a good trip overall, truck performed good other than gas mileage---averaged 11mpg....gas averaged $3.29 with a low of $2.99 in Oklahoma City! Total was right at $600. in gas....

Actually only have just over 10 weeks till have to be in Wisconsin to begin 2012 Workamping job.....looking at work opportunities over in Indianapolis that is expected to run 60 days or so, which will be nice to kill the waiting time!!

Hope all my good readers are well and staying warm wherever you may be!

  1. As usual, great pix! Am glad the cold weather is staying at bay for you. $600, 11mpg! Will have to rethink my RV lifestyle budget. Ha! That's always my problem tho - champagne taste and a beer pocket book. Good to hear from you! Don't get so busy killing the wait time that you forget about us, your blogger friends. Stay in touch and keep us "posted". :)

  2. Glad your travels were safe and uneventful. You'll be back in the south again one day soon -- the photos are great. Maybe you'll build the emergency fund up to supersize and spend your winters in the life of leisure. You are pretty lucky (or smart) to be so mobile for fun and work.

    1. Brenda, mostly lucky!! Have always been able to find work the last couple years since I started this lifestyle of mobile living.....except in Quartzsite......had not been home even a day and a job landed in my lap!! Will most definitely "supersize" the emergency fund before heading out next time!

    2. Oh man, sorry to hear you folded and came back to The People's Republic of Illinois. What a suck-hole place!

I'm also sorry to learn you couldn't figure out a way to scratch out what you needed to stay put. What is it, something like $10 a day? I'd have gone out picking up cans along the roadside, if I had to.

Oh well... I'm with Brenda when it comes to saying "stock up" on the cash supply before heading back out, so you don't have to do this again.

    3. Ya, it was only $10 a day, or even less....but I could not...WOULD NOT risk staying and ending of cashless and no job come thru......trust me, I weighed my options carefully....worked out though, as I start a new job here Tuesday which will allow me to put cash away fast!! Next year at this time could easily be a whole different scenario!!

  3. Nice pics John! You're gonna get soft with that FULL HOOK UP!

10 weeks isn't too long. That's in to mid April. Now that you have time and the full hook up, you should start to insulate the trailer and finish up any other "round tuits" you've been wanting to do to it.

    Keep in touch!

    1. Actually start work on a new job this coming Tuesday!! It will allow me to travel, and put money in the bank at same time! Insulating is at top of list, plus getting a bigger LP tank to hook onto heater so those little cylinders become a thing of the past!

  4. Oh yeah... 11mpg is what I get when I'm travelling at 75-80mph.

The MPG goes up as I slow down though.

  5. YAY!!! on the job news. Maybe you are right where you're suppossed to be for now. You studied on it and followed your best judgement, so that's good. Best to you wherever you land.

  6. At least you had the adventure and know more about your camp trailer, its strong and weak points. All-in-all a great starter trip.
I know you will be better prepared next outing.

  7. Great pics along the I-40 route. I can't tell you how many times I have made that trip years ago from San Diego to Indiana and back. I didn't follow I-40 but did take a Indiana to San Diego bicycle trip in my younger years. The best summer I ever had. That trip is the root of my traveling bug. Good luck back in the midwest, great weather this winter so far and get back on the road!
